Nintendo has announced a new partnership with Niantic, the developers behind Pokémon Go, to collaborate on a new mobile Pikmin AR game. The new app is set to launch later this year.
The news came yesterday in a blog post on Niantic'southward website. Co-ordinate to Kei Kawai, vice president of product management, the upcoming game will "include gameplay activities to encourage walking and brand walking more than delightful."

Niantic also clarified that the app will exist created by its Tokyo Studio, established in 2018. The Pikmin AR release date is set for this year.

The news was apace followed by a press release from Nintendo. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, representative director, fellow at Nintendo, Niantic's AR technology will let the states "experience the globe as if Pikmin are secretly living all around us." Miyamoto as well highlighted that the partnership's aim is to deliver "a new experience that'due south different from traditional games."
John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, described the partnership as "a natural side by side step with Nintendo."
"Nosotros're looking forrad to shaping the future of AR together," Hanke said.
